Dennis M. Dowd

Dennis began his horticultural career in 1961 when he graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge School of Agriculture with a Degree in Landscape Design.  In 1961 Dennis and a partner started Windy Lo Nursery in South Natick MA, which is still in operation today.  In 1971 Dowd’s Nursery, located at 79 Springdale Ave., and 58 Center Street,  Dover was started and specialized in  Rhododendron, ground covers, and later a  retail florist and garden center.  By 1991, the demand for design/build landscaping had grown by leaps and bounds and Landscape Development Inc. ( LDI) was founded.  LDI supplied customers with complete Design / Build landscape construction, trees, plants, services and estate maintenance.
        
Residential and commercial landscape projects in Massachusetts and New England number in the thousands.  Successful design/build Projects of note include the The Regency Hyatt, Cambridge, MA, Last Chance Ranch, Lake Placid NY,  Charles River School, Dover MA. Athletic complexes include the  baseball fields at Babson College, Wellesley, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, tees/greens and club house projects at the Walpole Country Club and the soccer field at Dedham Country Day school, Dedham.

Greg Dowd

Greg Dowd,  Before taking over the family business in 1994, Greg attended Dover-Sherborn High School.  Through high school Greg worked with his father Dennis at Dowd's Nursery, The Arnold Arboretum at the Case Estates in Weston, and Davey Tree. 

After graduating from DSHS in 1990 Greg went onto UMASS Amherst on a baseball scholarship.  Going to UMASS gave Greg the opportunity to study horticulture and arborculture as well as play baseball. One of Greg’s greatest athletic achievements was the Dennis Della Piana Sportsmanship Award recipient for baseball, as well as  summers playing baseball for the Chatham A's in the Cape Cod Baseball League.  Greg's academic highlights include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry from UMASS Amherst. a scholarship award from the Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters Association, internships at Weston Nursery in Hopkinton and the Case Estates.

From 1996-2000 Greg found time to be an elected official to the Town of Dover Park and Recreation Commission. In 1999 Greg was the chairman of the Dover Park and Rec where he  developing a maintenance plan for the Town of Dover Park lands.

In 2004 Greg and long time friend John Malzone opened a baseball training facility in Medfield called Malzone Baseball.  The program offers personal baseball and softball training for all ages.  

Greg and his wife Julie were married in May of 03, and have two son's named J.T.  and Ryan Mathew Dowd.








In 1994, management of LDI was transferred to Greg Dowd.  During high school and college Greg worked for Davey Tree Co, Arnold Arboretum and Weston Nursery in Hopkinton.  He played four years of base ball for the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a pitcher and graduated with a Forestry Degree. Greg has continued his father’s work by expanding on the area’s that include delivering a great product on time and on budget.  Outstanding customer service could be for a load of soil or a major landscape project.

Many of the early customers and their children, and children’s children are still with us, and look forward to more generations of design/build landscapes.
